I am an 34-year-old lawyer and doctoral researcher from Helsinki. I advocate for an equal and inclusive Helsinki for all. We can afford to take care of everyone – and we have an obligation to do so. Art, culture, education, and environmental values are central to quality municipal policy.

I have a consistent left-wing value system, where human dignity and respect for nature are more important than individuals’ ability to amass huge profits.

I began my political involvement about 20 years ago. I have been active in youth politics, student organization activities, as a member of the student union representative body (HYY), and in labor union work. I was also a candidate in the municipal elections in 2021.

I do not accept the idea that nothing can be done — that we must only cut and weaken public services. I believe that everything is ready to be implemented, and that if we just roll up our sleeves and get to work, we can make Helsinki an even better place to live.

It is entirely possible to secure enough service housing for the elderly, provide local daycare for the youngest, and maintain high-quality cultural services such as theater and the city orchestra. This is possible — and we can afford it. Furthermore, we have all the opportunities to promote sustainable development and carbon neutrality in Helsinki, for example, by supporting public and light transport, smart urban planning, and using cleaner energy. We also have an obligation to act in this way, for ourselves and for future generations.

Campaign Themes

Humane welfare services for every Helsinki resident: Helsinki is a large and wealthy city that can afford to organize its social and healthcare services in a way that ensures timely access to care and treats residents with dignity.

Helsinki’s children and youth are our shared responsibility: Children and youth are the future of Helsinki. The foundations of skills, mental health, community, health, and well-being are built in childhood. Children must be provided with appropriate group sizes in daycare and safe adults in primary schools. We can prevent increasing and escalating youth crime by ensuring that children and young people receive the social support they need early on.

The capital city is not a capital city without culture: Helsinki is Finland’s largest hub for culture and the arts. Helsinki is a significant player both as an employer, an educator, and a supporter of culture. Helsinki must ensure the conditions for both professional and grassroots-level art and culture through cultural grants and decisions that support, among other things, the availability of spaces for cultural use.

We can influence the environmental crisis! All possible means to prevent and adapt to the environmental crisis must be utilized. The Left Alliance of Helsinki demands a carbon-neutral Helsinki by 2030.
